Woodland Park

The Woodland Park Neighborhood, also know as Aylesford, is south of downtown within the boundaries of Rose Street, Main Street, Euclid Avenue, and Clay Avenue and includes several small neighborhood associations.

The dominating feature of this neighborhood is, of course, Woodland Park.  The park itself is a 20 acre park that was bought from the estate of James Erwin, son-in-law of Henry Clay, in 1882.  Today, the park includes a swimming pool, a baseball field, playground, basketball courts, and picnic areas.  Also located in Woodland Park is the Woodland Skate Park, opened in 1999 with the purpose of providing a safe, controlled environment where skate enthusiast could enjoy their sport.  The facility is open year round and free to the public.

Woodland Park hosts an assortment of cultural events including The AFB Art Fair and Ballet Under the Stars.  The AFB Art Fair is held every August and transforms the park into a venue for over 200 artists and craftpersons to sell unique, handcrafted items.  The fair has been voted one of the top 15 fine art fairs in the nation.  In addition to the handcrafted items, there is live entertainment, a family/children’s project area, and food vendors.  The Ballet Under the Stars is an annual event held in the evening every August and includes performers from several of the local ballet companies.  Picnics are encouraged and the event is open to all ages.  Celebrating its 23rd anniversary, this year, the event will be held from August 2 – 5 and costs $5 per person.  This event is not to be missed!  For additional information, contact Lexington Parks & Recreation at 288-2925 or aluallen@lexingtonky.gov

Aylesford is also a great area for shopping locally owned businesses.  Restaurants include Six Friends, Common Grounds Coffee House, Bourbon and Toulouse, Charlie Brown’s, and Rincon Mexicano, and Ramsey’s – a local favorite.  For your retail shopping needs, you can find Bluetique, John’s Run/Walk Shop, Scheller’s Fitness and Cycling, Unique Books, Wines on Vine, and M’s Embroidery.  Kroger’s is conveniently located on Euclid Avenue for grocery shopping.

Maxwell Elementary, a Spanish immersion school, and several churches round out the neighborhood.

A new, modern addition to the neighborhood is High Point at Woodland Park – Lexington’s newest luxury condominiums.  The condos are in walking distance to UK, downtown, and all the local favorite destinations.  Each unit features a custom kitchen with premium appliances, security system, patio, and more.
