The Gardenside neighborhood, centrally located is southwest Lexington, has boundaries at Darien Drive, Traveler Traveler Road, Appomattox Drive, and Alexandria Drive to the west, Wolf Run Creek to the north, Beacon Hill Drive to the east, and Lane Allen Road to the south.

Gardenside is a pedestrian friendly neighborhood with sidewalks on both sides of the street, pleasant yards, and lovely landscaping….an ideal neighborhood.

Most of the homes in Gardenside are brick, ranch style homes; however, some two story homes can be found.  Gardenside is convenient to a variety of shopping and entertainment locations.  Only a couple of miles from New Circle Road, nearly all of Lexington is easily accessible to this established neighborhood.  The Turfland Mall offers dining and shopping options as well as a Home Depot.  On Alexandria Drive, you will find Krogers, several retail shops and many restaurants, including Mulligans Gardenside Café, a local favorite.

This neighborhood is also within just a few miles of Red Mile Race Track and Keeneland.  The Red Mile is the second oldest harness racing track in the world.  In addition to it’s live and simulcast racing schedules, The Red Mile also hosts wedding receptions, business conferences, circuses, concerts, and many other events.  Keeneland, of course, is Lexington’s crown jewel.  The track hosts a number of major events each year in addition to its fall and spring meets.  Racing season at Keeneland is not to be missed!  The track and it’s grounds are open year round.

Art in Motion, a local non-profit, is working with the neighborhood’s council member to revitalize a local 1950’s bus shelter.  The structure will be refurbished and have an art mural added for even more appeal.  Other pending improvements to the bus stop include planting native flowers around the shelter and repairing the period stainless steel light fixture.  Art in Motion has refurbished several transit shelters around Lexington with the goal of not only increasing the use of public transportation, but also ringing public art to Lexington’s neighborhoods.  Donations are being accepted for the ongoing project and can be sent to Art in Motion (http://aimlex.wordpress.com/) with “Gardenside Project” noted on your check.
