McConnell Springs Park

416 Rebmann Lane
Lexington, KY

To visit McConnell Springs Park you won’t even have to leave the city. This beautiful pocket of nature takes up 26 acres of an industrial area just northwest of Lexington’s downtown core and north of Cardinal Valley. Famously, McConnell Springs is where the city of Lexington was named back in 1775 by William McConnell and his band of early settlers.

The park is the home to two main natural springs, with some pretty unique features. The first, Blue Hole, gets its name from an unusual environmental effect that causes a distinctive blue color of the water. The second, the Boils, is named for a unique boiling effect caused by pressure from heavy rains forcing water up from underground. Natural “fountains” of water have been observed in excess of 2 feet.

It’s convenient location right near the central core of the city makes it a very popular choice, but it’s definitely well worth a look.
